Ban Netflix and Amazon Prime in India! Here’s why?

Ban Netflix and Amazon Prime in India! We don’t need shows like Mirzapur, Sacred Games and Ghoul! Bring back Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

While it took a lot longer than it should have—probably because it took us a year to figure out how to use streaming services—but finally it is here. Yes, the issue of censorship of web series has alas made its way to India and—thankfully—it does not bode well for the current entertainment revolution has been slowly taking place in this country.

2018 web-series’ by Netflix and Amazon Prime have been taking the country by storm and have redefined what native entertainment means for Indian audiences, and it is very worrying.

Why is it worrisome, you ask?

Let’s start with the worst. Strong Independent Female Characters.

Ghoul had a female protagonist who was in the army! A female protagonist that isn’t a housewife should already make people start collecting tomatoes to throw at their screens. After all, it’s now like women can just make a career in whatever field they desire!

Sacred Games even showed women having consensual sex and enjoying it! What utter unrealistic nonsense! Indian women don’t have sex! No! They just love and respect their “Pati Parmeshwar” so hard that they automatically become mothers!

Moving on to the next problem with these colonial culture web shows.

Complex plot-lines than underlying themes.

Who needs complex storytelling? There are 25 shows airing on Indian TV channels that have nearly identical simple linear plot-lines and we absolutely love all of them! Complex storytelling just confuses viewers and helps promote underlying themes that make people question the lives they lead and think about how those themes play in the real world. We don’t need all of that!

Watching the saas be cruel to her new bahu because she doesn’t want her son to be loved any woman except herself gives us enough to think and worry about and all the “dangers of hyper-nationalism” nonsense that shows like ghoul try to tell us about is just insignificant in comparison.

How dare Netflix produce such shows in India! We don’t need these things in our country?

It’s time to ban these modern web series and bring back the genius that was Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi because nothing represents our Indian values better than a show where housewives and their mothers in laws wear full wedding attire every day and plot against each other for the love of the strong alpha men in their lives every day for 8000 episodes while everyone else in  the family enjoys the drama.
